Road Trip to Big Bend!

This past weekend Daddy and I went to Big Bend with two of Mommy's cousins and three of my third cousins! We took a scenic drive through south Texas and stopped in Langtry where Judge Roy Bean used to be "The Law West of the Pecos" at his saloon named Jersey Lilly. They had a nice exhibit area.

And of course they had the original saloon, so we got to sit on it and get our picture taken.

Then we got to Big Bend and had to drive an hour on 4WD backcountry roads to get to our campsite. There was only one other campsite within miles and miles of our campsite. We hiked up a nearby hill to get a birdseye view of our campsite that we would call home for three nights. Can you see Daddy's Trooper and our tent behind me?

We all slept in one tent!

Then we saw the park via 4WD roads. This was on Black Gap Road, which is not maintained by the National Park Service. There were some pretty scary sections of this road, and at one point my cousins and I thought we were surely going to roll down into a canyon!

We made it back to this old mine. It was shut down in 1943! But before that, it produced nearly 25% of all of the mercury produced in the United States.

We saw lots of other areas of the park. The park is very big. We capped off our trip with a stop at Santa Elena Canyon. It was pretty, but my cousins and I liked trying to skip rocks in the Rio Grande much more fun than looking at those big rocks (that is me in the orange shirt)!

Cousin Daniel

My second cousin Daniel came to stay with us this weekend. We liked playing together:

That is, until he thought it was fun to pull my hair!

He only wanted to have fun though, and who could stay mad at this guy very long?
